Sri Lanka’s 64th Independence Day Ceremony organised by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto on 4th February, 2012 was a great success with wider participation of Sri Lankan communities.

Among the invited guests, there was Hon. Joe Daniel, Member of Parliament, who visited Sri Lanka recently.

 In the function, the full speech of H. E. the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, delivered at the Anuradhapura national Independence Day function, was re-broadcasted, including its Tamil translation.  There were cultural events from Sinhala, Tamil and Malay communities.  Religious leaders belonging to all main religions invoked their blessings.

At the conclusion there was a reception with traditional Sri Lankan food and tea.
