As you are aware, several regions of Sri Lanka have been affected by massive floods and landslides and 557,505 People belonging to 151,392 families have been affected in 15 Districts, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC). It has been informed that 177 persons died and 109 are missing. Further, 74,928 people belonging to 18,612 families have been accommodated at 366 safe locations. In this context the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka has informed this Consulate General that action has been taken to provide urgent relief assistance to those affected by the heavy rain, floods and landslides. The Consulate General has been authorized to accept donations in cash for this purpose as it would help purchase most of the urgent relief items locally in Sri Lanka and deliver such items immediately to the affected areas. 

Sri Lankan expatriates wishing to make donations are kindly requested to deposit them in the official bank account of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto with the reference “Donations for Flood Relief in Sri Lanka”.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka would, on conformation of the donations, issue every single donor an official Government of Sri Lanka receipt in respect of such donations, which will be sent by post. The Associations/Organizations, which are in receipt of the communication in this regard from the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa, may wish to deposit their donations either to the account of the High Commission or to the account of the Consulate General.
